Ms. Renee is a classically-trained piano player. Since childhood, she has had a strong interest in music, but only started learning the piano at the age of 9.
Renee has recently graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium for a Master's degree in piano performance under the tutelage of Oleg Stepanov, a celebrated Russian pianist who was the Senior Lecturer at the Conservatorium and co-founder of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition.
She also obtained the Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music, and minoring in Language & Communication from the University of Hong Kong in 2022. She studied piano performance with Dr. Amy Sze, Dr. Timothy Kwok, and Ms. Huang Yu’en, as well as music analysis, counterpoint and Schenkerian analysis with Professor Daniel KL Chua, the Chair Professor of music at the University of Hong Kong. During her studies, she was awarded the Hong Kong Children's Choir Scholarship and won second place in the Advanced Group B in the Asia Music Competition for Young Artists 2019 (Hong Kong Division), and was recommended to participate in the final competition in Busan, Korea.
In addition to the piano, Renee had been learning cello since the age of 9 and actively participated in orchestral training. She had served as assistant principal cellist in the orchestra. Since 2016, Renee has started her teaching career as a piano teacher, music theory teacher, as well as a collaborative pianist. Due to her music learning journey, Renee believes that a good piano teacher is essential and important especially during the early stage of learning to build up proper techniques and habits. She strongly emphasizes techniques and aural training during lessons.
